Sean McDonald
President and CEO, Precision Therapeutics
Sean McDonald joined the company in September 2000 and serves as President and CEO. Previously, Sean founded Automated Healthcare in 1992, developing the first robotics-based solution to hospital pharmacy management. Automated Healthcare was successfully acquired by McKesson Corporation in 1996. While at McKesson, he held the position of Group President over several operating companies with annualized revenues in excess of $250 million. Sean has been instrumental in recruiting and developing a successful management team to Precision in the areas of Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, Sales and Clinical Trials. Sean holds a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Florida.
Stanley N. Lapidus
President and CEO, Helicos BioSciences Corp.
Stanley Lapidus is an experienced life-science entrepreneur. Helicos is his third life-science start-up. In February 1995 he founded EXACT Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ: EXAS), an applied genomics company that develops and markets non-invasive, DNA-based methods for early detection of colorectal and other common cancers. He is currently Chairman of EXACT Sciences’ Board of Directors. Prior to EXACT, Mr Lapidus founded Cytyc Corporation (NASDAQ:CYTC) and was President and CEO from 1987 through 1994. In addition to his entrepreneurial activities, Mr Lapidus holds academic appointments in the Pathology Department at Tufts University Medical School, as well as MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He earned a BSEE from Cooper Union where he is also a Trustee. Mr Lapidus holds 29 issued patents.
Joel P. Adams
General Partner, Adams Capital Management, Inc.
Joel founded ACM in 1994 and led its growth to $815 million of capital under management. Joel's domain expertise includes distribution systems, medical analogy diagnostics, information technologies and web enabled services. Prior to forming ACM, he served as Vice President and General Partner of Fostin Capital Corporation, a Pittsburgh-based, family-owned investment firm from 1986 to 1994. Joel spent the first seven years of his career directing nuclear power plant sea trials for General Dyanamics, along with managing chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering teams. He holds a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from SUNY Buffalo and a M.S. in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Joel is a Trustee of CMU and a Director of several private companies.
David Hirsch
Founder and Principal, Longitude Capital
David Hirsch is a founder and Principal of Longitude Capital. He focuses on investments in biotechnology. From 2005 to 2006, Dr. Hirsch was a Vice President of Pequot Ventures where he worked in the life sciences practice. Prior to Pequot, Dr. Hirsch was an Engagement Manager in the pharmaceutical practice of McKinsey & Company. While at McKinsey, he worked with many large pharmaceutical companies across a range of projects including clinical and commercial strategies, M&A evaluations, portfolio prioritization and managed care strategy. He is a board observer at InfaCare Pharmaceuticals. He is also actively involved with Longitude’s investments in Amarin (NASDAQ: AMRN) and Corcept Therapeutics (NASDAQ: CORT), as well as prior investments in Horizon Therapeutics and Sequenom (NASDAQ: SQNM). Dr. Hirsch holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an M.D. from Harvard Medical School and a B.A. in Biology from The Johns Hopkins University.
Kevin Johnson
Chairman of the Board, Aureon Laboratories
Kevin Johnson was President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of DIANON Systems, Inc. (NASQ) until January 2003, when DIANON was acquired by Laboratory Corporation of America (NYSE). DIANON is a preeminent cancer diagnostic services company offering specialized anatomic pathology and molecular genetic testing services to physicians nationwide. Prior to joining DIANON in 1996, Mr. Johnson was employed by Quest Diagnostics for 18 years, having held numerous management and executive level positions. Mr. Johnson is Chairman of the Board of Aureon Laboratories, a medical technology company integrating clinical history, unique tissue patterns and molecular characteristics, to help determine the likely path of a patient’s cancer.
Richard S. Kollender
Partner, Quaker BioVentures
Mr. Kollender joined Quaker BioVentures as a Principal in early 2003 and was promoted to Partner in 2005. Previously, he worked at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), where he held positions in sales, marketing and worldwide business development. Mr. Kollender also served as an investment manager at S.R. One, as well as an active board observer for several of the portfolio companies. Mr. Kollender began his career as a Certified Public Accountant with KPMG Peat Marwick in Philadelphia, and spent six years in public practice. He is a member of both the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Kollender holds a B.A. from Franklin and Marshall College and an M.B.A. and Health Administration Policy degrees with Honors from the University of Chicago. Mr. Kollender sits on the board of directors of Precision Therapeutics, Transport Pharmaceuticals, and TargetRx, and is also an active board observer for several other Quaker BioVentures portfolio companies.
Marios Fotiadis
General Partner, TVM Capital
Mr. Marios Fotiadis joined TVM Capital in November 2007, and is a General Partner in the firm᾿s life sciences practice, based in Munich. Mr. Fotiadis has over 8 years of investing experience at SG Capital Partners (“SGCP”) and Advent International (“Advent”). While at SGCP and Advent, he has led, or participated in, the commitment of over $150 million of equity capital in 11 investments in transactions involving both Private Equity and Venture Capital. At SGCP, Mr. Fotiadis initially worked on Private Equity investments involving mostly growth capital transactions in mid-size U.S. companies focusing on the Life Sciences and Business Services sectors. In 2000 he initiated and led the SGCP practice in Life Sciences, where he led the commitment of over $85 million in 8 transactions involving both VC and growth capital investments. He then continued his VC career in Life Sciences at Advent, where he invested in Life Science companies both in the US and Europe. In addition to his investing experience, Mr. Fotiadis was an investment banker focusing on M&A transactions at SG Cowen in New York and also was the CEO of Achillion Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ACHN, New Haven, CT), a biotechnology company focused on the development of anti-infective drugs. Mr. Fotiadis served on the Board of Directors of several private and public companies, including Anadys Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ANDS), Achillion Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ACHN), Trident Pharmaceuticals (Boston, MA), Spear Therapeutics (London, UK), Ricerca Biosciences (Cleveland, OH), Hunter Fleming Ltd. (Bristol, UK). He holds an MBA degree from Columbia University and a BS degree from the University of Denver.
Kenneth R. Weisshaar
Board Member, Orthofix International N.V.
Ken Weisshaar joined the board of Precision Therapeutics in November 2007. He currently serves on the board of Orthofix International N.V., which he joined in 2004; he previously served on the board of Digene Corporation from 2003 until 2007, when the company was acquired. From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Weisshaar served as Chief Operaing Officier and Strategy Advisor for Sensatex, Inc. Prior to that, he spent 12 years at Becton Dickinson & Company where he held a number of senior positions including Chief Financial Officer; President Worldwide Consumer Healthcare; Sector President, Cell Analysis sector; President, BD Division; and VP Corporate Planning and Development. Mr. Weisshaar earned a B.S. from MIT and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
