Discussing ChemoFx® with Your Patient
Interpretation of the Results
The final report will highlight the best in vitro response to chemotherapy according to the panel of agents you selected for testing. This is to act as a guide to be added to your knowledge of the patient's history, current conditions, etc. The final decision on treatment of choice is obviously yours. It is, however, recommended that you discuss all possible treatments, including the agents to be tested, with your patient before they consent to ChemoFx testing. You and your patient can then determine the next step in therapy.

ChemoF® - Helping to Tailor your Cancer Therapy
Q. What is ChemoFx?
A. It is a laboratory test that provides information about how your cancer cells respond to different chemotherapy agents under testing in the laboratory. This test is performed in Precision Therapeutics laboratories.
Q. How can ChemoFx help me?
A. ChemoFx focuses on the unique characteristics of your particular cancer. The results help your doctor select between therapeutically equivalent chemotherapy options. It is highly desirable to know which drugs are effective against your particular cancer cells before chemotherapy agents are administered. Your doctor will discuss the best treatment plan with you based on all the information available and on his/her expertise, not just the results of this test.
Q. How is the ChemoFx test done?
A. A portion of your cancer cells or associated fluids, removed during a surgical procedure or biopsy, is sent to Precision Therapeutics for testing. The cancer cells are grown in the laboratory and treated with the chemotherapy agents selected by your doctor. After treatment of the cancer cells, a member of the laboratory scientific staff determines the cancer cell response to each drug. A final report is prepared and sent to your doctor.
Q. Is ChemoFx right for me?
A. The best way to determine if ChemoFx is right for you is to discuss the test with your doctor. This test may not be appropriate for all patients or cancer types. Once you review this information with your physician, if he/she needs additional information please have them contact our Account Specialists at 1-800-547-6165.
Q. Is there any added risk?
A. No. Precision Therapeutics is sent a portion of the cells that your doctor has already decided to remove when diagnosing or treating your cancer. There is no additional risk to obtain cells for the ChemoFx test during a procedure or surgery that has been medically prescribed by your doctor. Precision Therapeutics never suggests a procedure solely to obtain cancer cells for ChemoFx testing.
Q. I have already had surgery; can you still test my cancer tissue?
A. The ChemoFx test requires live cells. We are not able to use frozen or preserved cells. If it is necessary to perform a procedure or surgery in the future, cancer cells obtained at that time may be tested. ChemoFx may also be performed on fluid collections from the abdominal cavity or the thorax.
Q. Who pays for the ChemoFx test?
A. The ChemoFx Assay is covered by Medicare Part B and has been reimbursed by over 400 commercial insurance companies.
