Medical Records Coordinator
 
Reports to:  Manager of Clinical Laboratory

The Opportunity:

Precision Therapeutics, Inc. is a clinical laboratory located in the South Side of Pittsburgh. Precision provides a test which provides information oncologist can use to assist in selecting effective cancer therapies for their patients.  We are currently seeking a Medical Records Coordinator to join the Clinical Operations team. 

Primary Responsibilities:

As a member of the Clinical Operations team the Medical Coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Verification of information fidelity in the specimen medical record and the electronic database.
  • Quality control assessment of test results.
  • Quality review of information relating to correlation of test results and final report. 
  • Preparation, proofing and releasing of test results to physicians in a report format.
  • ICD-9 coding.
  • Identification and implementation of process improvements to streamline workflow and improve quality control measures.
  • Effective interaction with intra-departments to ensure all required, vital information and documentation is acquired in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

Education

  • 2+ years of education beyond high school or certificate from college or technical school; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Previous positions in a clinical laboratory or hospital setting that include production of patient reports for physicians.
  • Background in a laboratory, medical or healthcare environment strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical transcription, medical records, tumor registry and ICD-9 Coding.
  • Previous exposure to oncology, pathology and/or radiology departments.

  • Productive – ability to consistently meet deadlines or ahead of schedule.
  • Well-developed, effective communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools.
