The Opportunity:

Precision Therapeutics, Inc. assists physicians in selecting effective chemotherapeutics for their cancer patients. PTI is a personalized medicine company located in Pittsburgh PA. We are seeking a Manager of the Biology Research and Development Team.

The Biology R & D Team is responsible for new product and project development as well as on-going process improvements to existing clinical laboratory processes.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated a successful track record in:

• Management/Leadership of  multi-disciplinary teams achieving project goals on-time while exceeding expectations
• Successful Scientific Publications and Presentations
• Senior Technical Contribution to various development projects, goals, and initiatives

Past accomplishments must include:

• Successfully implementing product & process improvements and knowledge to a clinical laboratory production function
• Developing and standardizing internal group and group interface procedures
• Acting as a technical liaison between the R&D team and sales, client services, marketing, and business development teams etc.
• Working with a business development team to analyze and evaluate potential alternatives for licensing or acquisition
• Managing an intellectual property portfolio
• Statistical methods such as DOE, SPC and/or bioequivalence

Qualifications:

• Education requirements:  
• PhD with a  major focus in a chemical, physical, biological, life or clinical laboratory/medical technology sciences
• Preferred Post-doctoral work in a field relating to cell biology and mammalian cell culture
• Management Experience:          
• Preferably 2+ years managing a research group
• Effective project planning and tracking of multiple projects simultaneously
• Develop and manage operating and capital expenditure budgets
• Demonstrated track record of delivering well-designed implementations on-time and on-budget into real world applications

• Scientific  Experience:   
• Cell Biology, Pharmaco-genomics background a plus
• Well-developed statistical and process/quality control methodologies
• Familiarity with automated systems for cellular imaging
• Understanding of the software development process
• Highly developed experimental design, hypothesis generation, and data analysis skills

• Required Skills:  
• Highly Motivated and quick learner
• Highly developed proactive and positive management style with the ability to quickly integrate into a nimble, independent culture of highly motivated scientific and technical contributors
• Ability to lead a growing team of scientific professionals in the development of ex vivo biological based assays
• Highly developed presentation development and communication skills, ability to present effectively to widely varying medical and business audiences
• Successful publication history, ability to lead the rapid development and publication of scientific and clinical journal publications
• Able to work independently or in small teams
• Preferred knowledge of clinical laboratory standards and regulatory requirements (accreditation, governmental regulation)
• Commitment to implementing continuous process improvement programs
• Problem-solver who makes sound decisions
• Highly organized and detail oriented
• Ability to inspire and motivate others to perform
• Well developed and effective communication skills, verbal and written
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools
