Sean McDonald President and Chief Executive Officer, Precision Therapeutics,
Sean McDonald joined the company in September 2000 and serves as President and CEO. Previously, Sean founded Automated Healthcare in 1992, developing the first robotics-based solution to hospital pharmacy management. Automated Healthcare was successfully acquired by McKesson Corporation in 1996. While at McKesson, he held the position of Group President over several operating companies with annualized revenues in excess of $250 million. Sean has been instrumental in recruiting and developing a successful management team to Precision in the areas of Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, Sales and Clinical Trials.
Stanley N. Lapidus President and CEO, Helicos BioSciences Corporation
Stanley Lapidus is an experienced life-science entrepreneur. Helicos is his third life-science start-up. In February 1995 he founded EXACT Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ: EXAS), an applied genomics company that develops and markets non-invasive, DNA-based methods for early detection of colorectal and other common cancers. He is currently Chairman of EXACT Sciences' Board of Directors. Prior to EXACT, Mr Lapidus founded Cytyc Corporation (NASDAQ:CYTC) and was President and CEO from1987 through 1994. In addition to his entrepreneurial activities, Mr Lapidus holds academic appointments in the Pathology Department at Tufts University Medical School, as well as MIT's Sloan School of Management. He earned a BSEE from Cooper Union where he is also a Trustee. Mr Lapidus holds 29 issued patents.
Joel P. Adams General Partner, Adams Capital Management, Inc.
Joel founded ACM in 1994 and led its growth to $810 million of capital under management. From 1986 to 1994 he served as Vice President and General Partner of Fostin Capital Corporation, a Pittsburgh-based, family-owned investment firm. Before Fostin, Joel spent seven years directing nuclear power plant sea trials for General Dyanamics, along with managing chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering teams. Joel's domain expertise includes distribution systems, medical devices, optics, software and wireless communications. He holds a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from SUNY Buffalo and a M.S. in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Joel is a former Trustee of CMU and a Director of several private companies.
Kevin Johnson Chairman of the Board, Aureon Laboratories
Kevin Johnson was President; CEO and Chairman of the Board of DIANON Systems, Inc. (NASQ) until January 2003, when DIANON was acquired by Laboratory Corporation of America (NYSE). DIANON is a preeminent cancer diagnostic services company offering specialized anatomic pathology and molecular genetic testing services to physicians nationwide. Prior to joining DIANON in 1996, Mr. Johnson was employed by Quest Diagnostics for 18 years, having held numerous management and executive level positions. Mr. Johnson is Chairman of the Board of Aureon Laboratories, a medical technology company integrating clinical history, unique tissue patterns and molecular characteristics, to help determine the likely path of a patient's cancer.
Mr. Johnson also serves as a director on the Board of Focus Diagnostics, providing the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries with advanced testing in the diagnosis, treatment and management of infectious diseases and development of new therapeutics, and MDdatacor, a healthcare data-mining company providing time sensitive patient clinical information to healthcare providers. Mr. Johnson also serves on the advisory board of New Leaf Venture Partners, a life science-dedicated venture capital firm located in New York and Menlo Park, CA
Richard S. Kollender Partner, Quaker BioVentures
Mr. Kollender joined Quaker BioVentures as a Principal in early 2003 and was promoted to Partner in 2005. Previously, he worked at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), where he held positions in sales, marketing and worldwide business development. Mr. Kollender also served as an investment manager at S.R. One, as well as an active board observer for several of the portfolio companies.
Mr. Kollender began his career as a Certified Public Accountant with KPMG Peat Marwick in Philadelphia, and spent six years in public practice. He is a member of both the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Kollender holds a B.A. from Franklin and Marshall College and an M.B.A. and Health Administration Policy degrees with Honors from the University of Chicago. Mr. Kollender sits on the board of directors of Precision Therapeutics, Transport Pharmaceuticals, and TargetRx, and is also an active board observer for several other Quaker BioVentures portfolio companies.
Jeffrey E. Shogan, MD
Deputy Director of Business Affairs, UPMC Cancer Centers
Dr Jeffrey Shogan is the deputy director of business affairs and treasurer at the UPMC Cancer Centers. He also serves as a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. Prior to assuming the position of Deputy Director of Business Affairs at the UPMC Cancer Centers, Dr Shogan was the co-managing partner of Oncology Hematology Association (OHA) and the director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He also has held faculty positions at Presbyterian University Hospital, Duke University Medical Center, the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University School of Medicine and Duquesne University School of Nursing. Dr. Shogan serves as Chairman of the Board for D3 Advanced Radiation Planning Services Dr Shogan is affiliated with a number of professional associations, including the American Medical Association, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American College of Physicians, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Allegheny County Medical Society. He has had articles published in numerous major medical journals. Dr Shogan received his bachelor's degree in Philosophy/Psychology from Yale University. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine He completed his internship and residency at Presbyterian University Hospital, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. Dr. Shogan completed a Clinical Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Duke University Medical Center.
Kenneth R. Weisshaar

Ken Weisshaar joined the board of Precision Therapeutics in November 2007. He currently serves on the board of Orthofix International N.V., which he joined in 2004; he previously served on the board of Digene Corporation from 2003 until 2007, when the company was acquired. From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Weisshaar served as Chief Operaing Officier and Strategy Advisor for Sensatex, Inc. Prior to that, he spent 12 years at Becton Dickinson & Company where he held a number of senior positions including Chief Financial Officer; President Worldwide Consumer Healthcare; Sector President, Cell Analysis sector; President, BD Division; and VP Corporate Planning and Development. Mr. Weisshaar earned a BS from MIT and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
